How Google Analytics Collects Data

This platform collects data and complies it to useful report using the small scripts of JavaScript tracking code in collecting the data relating to your visitors and how they interact on your site.”

From the discussions we had above, you can monitor the number of visitors to your websites. in the case of a merchandise store, you will determine how many visitors bought an item by confirming whether they made it to the purchase confirmation page.

The tracking code will also collect your browsers’ language, like the language the browser is set to, the type of the browser like Chrome and the devices, and the operating system.

It is also used in collecting the traffic sources as this is what brings users to your pages in the first case. Your search engine or an advertisement they had checked when marketing or the Email marketing campaigns could be due to your search engine.

When the loaded pages collect a tracking code, you have to understand that it is also sending information to the owners and the user’s activity. All this google collects together and calls as a “session.” The session starts when the visitor navigates in the tracking code of the page and ends after a period of 30minutes that he has been inactive. If he/she gets back to the page, the pages take off again. All that data collected by the tracking code is sent to Google Analytics to be compiled into reports. Google analytics organizes the data based on particular criteria and, therefore, stores it into a database that cannot be changed.

Structure Of The Analytics Account

All the google analytics accounts can be grouped into one Organization, but this is not a must. The small-medium businesses use one account, unlike the larger businesses with different accounts for the Organization. Create Property on the account and create a View though it is said that one Property may contain different views. Doing this helps you organize your business better that can show out how your business is.

Google Analytics shows and tells how the data is collected from your websites and how it is accessible and who can access the data. You can find that each Property can have a different tracking ID that appears on your websites. You may have different properties for different products from separate regions. This makes you treat the sales separately, and you will not be able to access the data from a different region other than the one in that Property. We have new views that include past data, and if a view is deleted, only the admins can recover views in a limited time, and then it disappears.

You can also share them and permit other users in the accounts, Property, or the view level. If you have been permitted to access the account, you have the same roles to the properties and views underneath that account. But if you have been given only permitted to access the views, you cannot change or alter any data in both the permission and the account. Despite you having permitted users to access the account, you have to restrict them from adding other users, deleting information, and removing other users. How you configure your organizations, accounts, properties, data views can affect how your data can be collected.

It would be best if you thought when you make implementations, so you have to ensure the properties and views align with the business structure.

Navigating Full Audience Report

When you open your full report, you will see the links underneath segment picker control different data types in the report. Simultaneously, the summary view is the dimension categorized by acquisition, behavior, and conversion metrics. This one makes it easier to interpret the metrics in the context of marketing funnels. So the Audience report provides information concerning your website visitors that involves an in-depth look for your community’s traffic and user behavior after they arrive.

Shortcuts and Dashboards

You can use Dashboards with the shortcuts quickly to find these metrics without navigating to specific reports. The dashboard can be used for various purposes like you can use it to check on an overview of how your page is performing. You can gather different metrics for the business, which glance or compare different reports side by side. To view the reports, you have to click customization and then dashboard on the right corner to view the reports you have collected.

To create a new dashboard, click create, then click starter dashboard and then name your dashboard. You can still add the widgets to your dashboard by clicking add widgets, and then it will let you name the wedges that you would like to appear on your dashboard. Select visualization, and then you may choose a timeline, map, table pie chart, and others included there. For the other customizations, you can follow the procedures provided there.

Tracking Campaigns With The URL Builder

The URL campaign tracking is said to be “the practice of adding some additional parameters” to link you use on your site. After adding this information, the link is referred to as Campaign, which will be automatically in your Google Analytics account.

“For you to navigate to the URL, click the link provided at the end of the lesson and scroll down to the URL builder and on the first step type pastes the URL and fill out the spaces for the campaign medium and campaign source.” It is not a must for you to fill out the campaign content and campaign term so you can leave them as they will not affect you. But remember to fill in the campaign name (maybe values), Term, and content

If using phrases, the URL will separate the words by underscores to avoid spaces in the URL.

Make sure you used campaign names like “display” for banner ads and “email” for email campaigns if you find that your configuration can break your Google Analytics campaign tracking.
